Wearcomp 200™ is a Polyimide-based composite moulding compound, reinforced with 1” chopped carbon fibres and Graphite. It is highly resistant to wear and corrosion, and designed for use in parts that require high impact resistance and stress, and great tolerance for medium rotary speeds.
Designed by HyComp LLC, Wearcomp was developed as an alternative to Aluminium Bronze in forging, cutting, milling, bearings and other high-wear applications, offering far greater resistance to wear and tear, significantly improved impact resistance, far lower friction coefficient. Its greater durability can drastically reduce the maintenance cycle for high stress equipment.
The Wearcomp 200™ variation was then designed to include Graphite particles for an even lower friction coefficient and lower overall carbon fibre count.
In addition, WearComp 200™ is self-lubricating, eliminating the headaches caused by long-term buildup of leftover lubricant other materials may lead to. It has an upper operating temperature of 316 ℃ or 600 ℉, but can tolerate temperature spikes up to 538 ℃ or 1000 ℉.
Composition
- Polyimide resin matrix
- Carbon Fibre reinforcement (1” chopped fibres on average)
- Graphite particle addition for lower friction coefficient and self-lubrication
Properties
- Very good chemical resistance (though strong bases with pH >10 not recommended)
- Exceptional mechanical strength
- Excellent Dimensional Stability
- Self-lubricating, very low friction coefficient
- High compressive and tensile strength
-
High impact and shear resistance, very low water absorption (<0.5%)
Durability
Compared to the 13-16 weeks liners made of Aluminium Bronze last, operators report getting a year or more of service from components made from Wearcomp.
In general, high wear components made of Wearcomp appear to last approximately 5 times longer than the same parts made of more traditional alloys, greatly reducing maintenance cost and frequency.
A wide variety of chemical agents such as acids, hydraulic fluids, seawater, oils and grease have little to no effect on WearComp components, with its only chemical weakness being very strong bases with a Ph of >10.
Uses
- High temperature bearings and bushings
- Industrial equipment wear parts
- Sliding plates and liners
- Waste Industry recycling
- Extrusion and forging equipment
Nearly all Aluminium Strip processing in North America, as well as most of the steel hot rolling mills and finishing lines have switched to using such composite materials.
