PVDF-Films

PVDF Polyvinylidene fluoride films
Polyvinylidene fluoride or PVDF is a highly reactive thermoplastic fluoropolymer, a polymer of vinylidene fluoride.
PVDF is a special plastic from the fluoropolymer family.
It is a semi-crystalline, semi-opaque and white engineering thermoplastic that is quite melt processable. It has good temperature and general chemical resistance and good abrasion and radiation resistance. It is somewhat stiffer and stronger than most (melt-processable) fluoropolymers, but has high dielectric losses.
It has a highly dipolar molecule, so if the right morphology is achieved, valuable piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties result.
In practice, both uniaxial and biaxial mechanical orientations are used, which give a different balance of piezoelectric/pyroelectric properties after poling.
It is commonly used in applications requiring the highest purity, strength and resistance to solvents, acids, bases and heat and low smoke formation in case of fire. Compared to other fluoropolymers, it has an easier melting process due to its relatively low melting point.
